Dear parent/ carer,
Twilight sessions for Year 11 coursework
We are writing to inform you of a vital intervention session scheduled to support your child in achieving a Level 2 Pass (L2P) or Grade 4 in their current Vocational Technical Qualification (VTQ) subjects, which include Art, Business, Creative Media, Digital Information Technology, Health and Social Care, Sport and Dance.
This session is targeted specifically at students whose current performance data shows they are achieving grades classified as Level 1 Pass (L1P), Level 1 Merit (L1M), Level 1 Distinction (L1D), or, for Art, a grade below 4 (such as Grade 3, 2, 1, or U). These students require urgent, targeted intervention to finalise or improve their outstanding coursework and secure the marks necessary for successful completion of the course.
VTQ Twilight Session Details
| Date | Wednesday 3rd of December |
| Time | 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM |
| Attendance | Compulsory |
| Logistics | Food will be provided for students during the session break. |
- Component Submission Deadline: We must submit Component 2 for external moderation to the exam boards on 8th of December. This twilight session provides the last opportunity for staff to offer intensive, supervised support to ensure all required evidence, corrections and written work are completed and quality-assured before the submission date.
- Impact on Final Grade (Coursework Weighting): Coursework components, such as Component 1 and Component 2, are weighted heavily in these qualifications. Coursework accounts for 60% of the overall final grade. Once component grades are submitted to the exam board, they cannot be changed and this determined mark will significantly impact the student’s overall final grade.
- Targeted Grade Uplift: The focus of this session is to bridge the gap between current Level 1 grades (L1P, L1M, L1D) to the required Level 2 Pass (L2P). Please note that Level 1 grades are not considered a standard pass. Many students are close to this threshold. For example, some Business students achieving Level 1 Distinction (L1D) need as little as one additional mark in R068 to achieve L2P (which requires 36 marks).
We urge you to ensure your child attends and is prepared to work intensively for the full three hours. This focused intervention is the single most effective way to improve their grade before the component marks are sent to exam boards and cannot be changed.
To support attendance for families in Eastchurch, Leysdown and Warden Bay, the Academy will arrange a shuttle service following the session using the academy minibus. Please reply to this email to confirm if your child requires a place on this transport.
Should you have any urgent queries regarding this compulsory session, please contact your child’s college team or year 11 Assistant Head of College immediately.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students achieve their very best.
Yours faithfully
Mr. M. Stevens | Principal
