Year 11 GCSE Geography Fieldwork visit to Isle of Dogs

Dear parent/ carer,

Year 11 GCSE Geography Fieldwork visit to Isle of Dogs- Friday 9th January 2026

To enhance their GCSE Geography studies, and fulfill their fieldwork requirements, Year 11 students will be participating in a fieldwork trip to the Isle of Dogs on Friday 9th January 2026.

This practical experience, a required component of their GCSE coursework, will directly support their preparation for the Unit 2 exam. Students will engage in data collection activities at multiple locations, applying their classroom learning to real-world scenarios.

Cost

The academy is pleased to inform parents that this trip is free, with all costs covered by the academy.

Travelling and to and from the academy that day

Students will be expected to arrive at the academy by their usual time of 8.25am as the coaches will be leaving by 8.30am. If any students arrive late, then unfortunately they will be unable to attend.

We will be departing the venue with an expected return time to the academy of approximately 4.30pm.  As we will return to the academy after the academy buses have departed for the day, parents/carers are required to make alternative arrangements for their child. Please note your intended method of travel home on the consent form.

Uniform expectations

Students will be expected to attend the trip in full academy uniform, any student that does not meet the academy’s uniform expectations will not be able to attend the trip. The only exception is that students will be allowed to wear trainers due to the amount of walking on the trip. This should be appropriate and therefore must meet the following requirements below:

  • Please wear trainers suitable for PE. No open-toed shoes, heels, crocs, sliders or sandals are allowed.

Students are expected to bring their academy bag with them, however their chromebook is not required for the trip and can remain at home. In case of wet weather please ensure that your child has a navy or black coat with them.

Lunch arrangements

As this will be an all day event, you will need to provide your child with a packed lunch and plenty of water as food will not be provided at the event location. If your child is in receipt of free school meals, then the academy will arrange a packed lunch; however, we would recommend that you supply your child with some snacks and water.

For the comfort of all passengers and to help keep our coaches clean, our coach provider kindly requests that no fizzy drinks or chewing gum are consumed on board. The academy fully supports this, and we remind all parents/carers that these items are not permitted by the academy’s policy.

Additional information

Students are responsible for their money and personal belongings. The academy is not liable for any lost, stolen, or left-behind items.

Behavior on the trip must align with the academy’s behavior policy; failure to do so will result in the same sanctions as if they occurred at the academy.

Parent/ carer permission

To give permission for your child to take part in this event, please complete the consent form linked  here by Wednesday 10th December 2025.

This is a fantastic opportunity to represent the academy, and we hope your child will be able to attend. If there are any questions, please contact your child’s college team.

Yours faithfully

Mr J. Lutz | Assistant Principal
