Leigh Academy Minster held its inaugural Cultural Capital Day last week, as our Year 7, 8, and 9 students embarked on a series of free trips designed to promote their understanding of the wider world. This initiative is a cornerstone of our commitment to broadening horizons, enriching learning, and providing invaluable experiences beyond the classroom, fostering curiosity and inspiring future ambitions.

Our Year 7 students ventured to some of London’s most iconic institutions, each college exploring a unique facet of our nation’s heritage. Students from Wright College delved into the wonders of innovation and discovery at the National Science Museum, engaging with interactive exhibits that brought scientific principles to life. Meanwhile, Johnson College students immersed themselves in history at the National Army Museum, gaining insights into military history and its impact. Finally, Cody College students explored the world of art, design, and performance at the magnificent V&A Museum, sparking creativity and appreciation for diverse cultural expressions.

Year 8 students enjoyed a captivating day at the Greenwich Maritime Museum and Park, where they explored Britain’s rich naval history and the significance of Greenwich Mean Time, combining historical learning with the beauty of the park’s surroundings. Our Year 9 students, with an eye towards their future pathways, attended a dynamic careers taster day at the University of the Creative Arts. This provided them with a fantastic opportunity to experience university life firsthand and explore potential career avenues within the creative industries, igniting aspirations and offering practical insights into higher education.

The success of our Cultural Capital Day is a testament to the enthusiasm of our students and the dedication of our staff. These experiences are vital in developing well-rounded individuals, deepening their understanding of the world, and connecting their learning to real-life contexts. We believe such opportunities are crucial in shaping ambitious, responsible, and well-informed globally minded citizens. We look forward to continuing to provide these enriching experiences for all our students in the future.
