Academy closure due to extreme weather conditions

Dear parents/ carers,

Academy closure due to extreme weather conditions

I hope you and your families have had a fantastic Winter Break and I would like to wish all families a Happy New Year, with the academy looking forward to welcoming all students back tomorrow.

As families may have noted, the weather forecast for this week remains varied, with some reports of possible snow showers as we move through the week. Due to this, I would like to take the opportunity to remind all families of the academy’s processes in the event of disruptive and/or extreme weather conditions.

In the event of an extreme weather event such as heavy snow, the academy will implement its Extreme Weather policy. A copy of this policy can be found here. The academy’s intention is to always remain open if it is safe to do so, as we do not wish to disrupt students’ learning. However, safety is our number one priority and we will always act in the best interests of students and staff.

All families should consider the academy open unless they receive specific communication from the academy to notify them of a closure. This communication will be sent via email, text message and MCAS. Notifi cations will also be posted on our social media channels. It is vital that we have the correct mobile number and email address. It is parents/ carers responsibility to notify the academy of any change of contact details or update these via the MCAS app.

Following an academy closure, all students will be expected to continue their lessons online via their Chromebooks and Google Classrooms. All students’ work will be posted online, with their class teachers on hand during the timetabled period to provide remote feedback and support via the Google Classroom platform. Students will demonstrate their attendance to lessons via their submission of completed work on the platform, with this recorded by their class teachers.

Where possible, the decision to close the academy will be made before the start of the academy day. However, should weather conditions deteriorate signifi cantly while the academy is open, we may be required to close early. Any such decision will be communicated via the process outlined above.

Please note that if the site must close during the day, staff are also required to leave for their own safety. Consequently, students cannot be supervised on-site for the remainder of the day. We therefore expect all families to have a contingency plan in place to ensure their child has appropriate supervision.

Thank you in advance for your support on the rare occasion that the academy may be required to close due to weather conditions, and if you have any queries on the information detailed above please contact the academy directly.

Yours faithfully,
Mr. M. Stevens
Principal
