Dear parent/carer,
As this module draws to a close I would like to take this opportunity to thank all families for their support in a hugely successful first module of this academic year. Our students’ contributions to academy life have been phenomenal, with high levels of engagement in learning seen across the academy each and every day.
Alongside our core business of teaching, our students have been provided with a range of opportunities outside the classroom. This module saw our students compete and be victorious in a range of football fixtures across all year groups, with notable victories against all local schools. Further to this, our students participated in a number of LAT Sports Fixtures, performing exceptionally well against other LAT academies. Our Key Stage 4 and 5 Performing Art students visited the Westend to see the brand-new production ‘Hercules’, with our IB Global Politics students rounding off this module by participating in a COP event at Sevenoaks Independent School.
The pinnacle of this module was our hugely popular Open Evening, with over 260 families and a 1000 people in attendance. This event would not have been possible without the contributions of our students, with 268 of them staying to support the event and provide our prospective families with a warm welcome and their own views on life at Leigh Academy Minster. I am incredibly proud of our students, with feedback from families commenting on their respectfulness, confidence and positivity. A huge thank you to all families who supported us in ensuring their child could participate.
In readiness for our students returning on Monday 3rd November, please see below some key information for your reference:

Uniform
The academy has deliberately high standards with regards to students uniform, with all students expected to be in full uniform at all times. Please be reminded that all students are required to be in full uniform to access their lessons unless the academy receives medical evidence from a GP or medical practitioner. If a student attends the academy without their full uniform they will not be permitted to attend lessons.
Can we also remind parents/ carers to label their child’s clothing, such as bags and coats so if they are left around the academy, we can identify them and return them to students.
ParentPay
Please can we ask families to address any outstanding payments for purchases made by your child and top up ready for your child’s return to the academy in Module 2.

Class tools text
To fulfill our legal obligations and ensure transparency, the communication below must be sent out to all staff, students and parents/carers. We are writing to inform you about the launch of a new digital classroom management feature called Class Tools within Google Classroom, which will be used by teachers to support learning during school hours.
This tool is designed to help teachers manage focus in the classroom and improve accessibility. It includes the ability for teachers to temporarily restrict web access and, optionally, view student screens during a live class session. It also offers a feature for live audio translation to help all students participate fully.
Class Tools is designed to work only when students are on a controlled school network. Teachers cannot monitor, view screens, or restrict access when students are at home or using public Wi-Fi. The features are only active during a specific class session length set by the teacher. Students will be notified when a Class Tools session is active, making the use of the monitoring feature transparent in the classroom environment.
We believe this tool, with its strict limitations, is a proportionate step to support our educational and safeguarding goals. If you have any questions regarding the specific data collected or your rights, please contact LAT’s Data Protection Officer (DPO).
Gas Network Upgrade – Minster Road
We have been made aware that the third phase of the project to upgrade the gas network in the Minster Road area will begin from Monday 20th October. Sunnyside Avenue will be closed from Monday 13 October, and then we will close Barton Hill Drive on Monday 20 October. This closure has been timed to be carried out during the October half-term holidays to help minimise disruption. They are hoping to reopen Minster Road from Monday 3rd November.
Module 2 return date
All students are required to return to school at the start of Module 2 on Monday 3rd November as per normal academy times of the day. Please note that the academy is closed over the 2 week break and you will not receive a response to any enquiries until w/c 3rd November.
I would like to wish all students and staff a fantastic and restful Half Term Break.
Yours faithfully
Mr. M. Stevens | Principal
