Hewlett College provides its students with individualised pathways designed to offer a range of qualifications to support their chosen career paths. All students will select three qualifications and can choose from one of three pathway options: A Level, Vocational, or a blended approach of both types of qualifications.
International Baccalaureate
Career-related Programme
The International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) is a framework designed for students who wish to engage in career-related education while still gaining a rigorous academic foundation.
The programme combines a minimum of two IB Diploma Programme courses, a core set of components focused on personal and professional development and a career-related study vocational subject.
The IBCP is recognised by universities and employers worldwide as a qualification that prepares students for higher education, apprenticeships, or direct entry into the workforce. It is particularly valued by institutions seeking candidates with strong real-world skills, critical thinking abilities, and a global perspective.
Vocational
BTEC vocational qualifications are coursework-focused with an element of external assessment included.
Vocational subjects allow students to specialise in a specific area of industry or service, placing a greater emphasis on experiences that they will take into their future careers.
They are recognised by UK universities and provide students with a range of options across numerous further education courses.
A focus on real-life experience makes BTEC vocational qualifications attractive to employers and supports those students who wish to enter the world of work after leaving Hewlett College.
T Level
T Levels are a new, two-year full time technical qualification equivalent to three A Levels, that have been co-designed with employers to meet industry needs.
The qualification provides a high degree of practical and technical specialism by focusing on one of a range of technical routes. It is primarily assessed through classroom-based learning (80%) combined with a mandatory, in-depth Industry Placement of at least 45 days (20%).
T Levels are recognised by both UK universities and employers as a high-quality Level 3 qualification. They attract UCAS Tariff points equivalent to A Levels, enabling progression to higher education, including degree-level apprenticeships.
Employers value T Levels as they ensure students are ‘work-ready’, possessing both the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills needed for a skilled occupation, making them a strong pathway into skilled employment.
