Leigh Academy Minster (LAM) is making headlines with its remarkable transformation showcasing the hard work and forward-thinking leadership of Leigh Academies Trust (LAT). A recent feature in Kent Online celebrates the significant strides the academy has made after overcoming serious challenges.
The academy, previously run by another multi-academy Trust, was plagued by its poor reputation, with an “inadequate” Ofsted rating highlighting serious concerns particularly in regard to student behaviour and attendance. However, since LAT took the reins, the academy has experienced a dramatic transformation, fueled by a multi-million-pound investment from the Department for Education(DfE) and the implementation of dynamic new leadership.
In a short space of time, LAT has got to work to rebuild the academy’s foundation, placing a strong emphasis on renewing trust with the local community and establishing a fresh, unified vision. The LAM team, led by Principal Mathieu Stevens, have worked together to implement the “Minster Way”- a set of standards and expectations designed to ensure noticeable improvements in student behaviour. Key changes included the introduction of a strict uniform policy and a more disciplined approach to punctuality and conduct.
The impact of these positive changes is already apparent, not just statistically but also with parents and students praising the academy’s new direction. LAM is a shining example of how focused leadership and a commitment to excellence can revitalise a school and result in a positive learning environment where pupils thrive.
