Leigh Academy Minster (LAM) opened as a brand new academy on the Isle of Sheppey in September 2024. It offers 180 places in each of years 7-11, plus a sixth form.
In a very short period of time, LAM has become exceptionally popular with parents and is already heavily oversubscribed on first preferences for places in year 7. This meant that several families who put LAM down as first choice were not offered their preferred school on the Island on National Offer Day. This popularity is linked to parents’ support for LAM’s warm-strict approach to behaviour, its digital strategy which provides a Chromebook device to every pupil, its exceptional small-school model pastoral care system, the Cody College grammar stream and its academic and highly aspirational International Baccalaureate curriculum model.
Since National Offer Day, Leigh Academies Trust (LAT) has been working with Kent County Council (KCC) to provide more places at LAM for the benefit of local families and to meet the high level of demand. We are delighted to confirm that LAM will now offer an additional 30 places in year 7 in September. In return, KCC has agreed further capital investment at Minster so that we can continue to provide state of the art facilities and a high standard of education for our excellent students.
Affected parents will shortly be contacted about this matter by KCC, starting with all those who gave LAM as their first preference, but were not offered a place on National Offer Day. All queries should be directed to KCC in the first instance.
