Year 11 Next Steps Parent Letter

Dear parents/ carers,

Next steps after LAM

I am writing to share with you some important information regarding your child’s next steps post-16 as this is a critical time for application and decision-making for their future education and career pathways.

Your child should have already started the process of filling in their details on the Kent Choices platform. If your child has not yet received their Kent Choices login details, please ask them to see Mrs Blackman as soon as possible.

Your child was issued The Next Step magazine at the end of Module 1. This provides a wealth of information about the choices available to young people after Year 11 and is designed to be a helpful resource for both students and parents as you navigate what to do next.

Applications on Kent Choices open on Monday 3rd November. I would strongly advise getting applications in soon, as some popular courses are highly competitive.

I would highly recommend that you visit college and school open days together to enable you to make the best decision for your child. Open evenings are after school, so students do not need to leave early to attend these crucial events.

The academy’s Post 16 Open Evening will take place on Thursday 13th November, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm. This event is designed for the parents of Year 11 students who will be considering our academy for September 2026 admissions. A separate letter was sent to parents/ carers on 21st October with all information within. Booking is required to confirm your attendance at our open evening and can be completed on the following link:

Once your child has applied, they need to check their email regularly to see if they have been offered an interview. Most interviews will have a preparatory task that needs to be completed beforehand, so please ensure they look out for this, too.

Should your child be given an interview during school hours, they are allowed to attend. However, they must provide evidence of the time of the interview and come into school before the set time and return immediately afterwards. Any absence outside of this required time will be classed as unauthorised.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s college team.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs C Blackman | Assistant Principal for Wright College | Careers Lead
