Attendance Letter

Dear parent/ carers,

Attendance at Leigh Academy Minster

We are excited to announce some new initiatives aimed at promoting punctuality, rewarding consistent attendance, and fostering leadership among our students in Module 2.

The importance of attending the academy everyday and on time

Regular and punctual school attendance is crucial for your child’s academic success and personal development. Students who attend school consistently are more likely to achieve better academic outcomes, develop strong social skills, and build positive habits that will benefit them throughout their lives. We would strongly advise you against taking your child on holidays during term time as they miss so many vital learning opportunities.

In line with our Attendance policy and the Department for Education guidance, parents/ carers could be fined for taking their children on holiday during term time without school permission. The Local Authority can issue a fine of £80, rising to £160 if not paid within 21 days. A second fine for the same child in three years will also be £160. If parents receive two fines within three years, the next offence could result in prosecution. We also have the authority to place your child on an Notice To Improve to help to improve their attendance.

Attendance Rewards System Module 2

We will be running a College competition for all three colleges in Module 2 , the tutor groups with the best overall attendance will win a Christmas hamper for the tutor group to share and the tutor group with the most improved attendance will also win a hamper to share .

All students with 100% attendance will receive a letter home for the module and a certificate to celebrate their commitment.

Update on the Student Ambassadors Programme

This programme aims to empower students to take on leadership roles, contribute positively to the school community, and develop valuable skills for the future.

The Student Ambassadors met in Module 1 and we discussed all matters of attendance including how best to reward attendance . We also agreed on a plan for this academic year and look forward to sharing this with you over the coming months.

We appreciate your continued support in helping your child to continue to develop positive attendance habits that  lead to success both in the academy and beyond.

Yours faithfully,

Mr. M. Stevens | Principal
