Communications w/c 17th November 2025

Dear parent/ carer,

It has been a truly impressive start to Module 2 at Leigh Academy Minster, with the initial two weeks proving to be exceptionally busy and highly successful across the board. The highlight of the fortnight was undoubtedly the hugely popular Post 16 Open Event, which saw fantastic engagement from prospective students and their families. This energy has continued into our extra-curricular activities, with a run of successful football fixtures showcasing the talents and teamwork of our students.

Most importantly, throughout all these events and in their daily academy life, our students have continued to embody The Minster Way, demonstrating the dedication, respect, and high standards we value. To ensure our families remain fully informed and continue as a key partner of ours to support their child, please see below a round up of key messages for your reference:

Mock Examinations for Year 11 and 13

Mock examinations for students in Year 11 and Year 13 are scheduled to take place from November 17th to November 28th. Additionally, Year 11 students enrolled in vocational subjects will have a dedicated practical mock week beginning on December 1st.

We ask for your support in ensuring your child’s full attendance during this crucial period. It’s essential that students are present for all exams so teachers can accurately determine their current progress and identify areas needing improvement. This data is vital as it allows staff to tailor future lesson plans to best support your child’s learning and help them achieve their academic goals.

A letter has been sent to parents/ carers with students in these year groups today which include their timetables.

Year 7 Parent’s Evening

The above event will take place at the academy on Thursday 11th December from 3.45- 6.45pm. A letter was sent to all parents/ carers with students in this year group on Wednesday to notify them when the booking system will open. You will be able to make appointments with your child’s Teachers via MCAS which will go live at 5pm on Wednesday 19th November 2025.

If you are yet to activate your My Child At School account, please contact your child’s college prior to the booking day.

Use of bus passes to and from the academy

The academy is fortunate to have two bus companies who run services to and from the academy daily. Following the change in bus company timetables, there have been a number of enquiries recently about what bus passes can or cannot be used on the services. Please see below the breakdown:

  • The KCC Travel Saver pass can be used from when it is received until 31st July 2026. This pass allows your child to use it on any public bus service in Kent (both Chalkwell and TravelMasters services) on Monday to Friday between 6am and 7pm. Passes can be used in school holidays but not in August.
  • The KCC 16+ Travel Saver is valid at any time of the day of the year, including evenings, weekends and school holidays. There are no restrictions on the number of journeys with this bus pass (both Chalkwell and TravelMasters services)
  • The Council funded school transport bus pass (otherwise known as a TMS pass) can also be used on all services free or charge (both Chalkwell and TravelMasters services).
  • The Chalkwell Youth bus pass can only be used on Chalkwell services and is not eligible for use on the TravelMasters services.

Club cancellations (w/c 17th November and w/c 24th November)

Due to the mock exams taking place over the next two weeks in the Sports Hall, badminton and netball will be cancelled. These will begin again w/c 2nd December.

ParentPay

Please can we ask families to address any outstanding payments for purchases made by your child and top up ready for your child’s return to the academy on Monday.

If you are yet to activate your ParentPay account, please contact your child’s college who will be able to support.

Yours faithfully

Mr. M. Stevens | Principal
